Apple is experiencing a surge in iPhone upgrades, with more customers switching to newer models during the company’s fiscal first quarter than ever before, according to CEO tim Cook. This momentum is being fueled, in part, by the growing adoption of apple Intelligence, the company’s suite of artificial intelligence tools.“More iPhones were upgraded during Apple’s fiscal first quarter than any previous period,” Cook stated during the company’s recent earnings call. He further revealed that the iPhone 16 lineup, released in September 2024, is outperforming the iPhone 15 in sales following it’s launch.
Cook attributes this success to the allure of Apple Intelligence, noting that iPhone 16 sales are particularly strong in markets where the feature is available. “Customers are upgrading in part to get access to Apple Intelligence,” he explained, “and iPhone 16 sales were stronger in markets where Apple Intelligence is available compared to markets where it hasn’t been rolled out.”
The absence of Apple Intelligence in China, a key market for apple, presents a unique chance. The company recently announced plans to launch the feature in simplified Chinese, along with several other languages, in April.
While China’s revenue fell 11% year-over-year in the first quarter, Cook anticipates a positive shift with the arrival of Apple Intelligence.iPhone sales remain strong, registering a modest decline of just under 1% year-over-year, reaching $69.14 billion.Looking ahead, Apple is poised to expand its AI offerings.
“In April, Apple Intelligence will be made available in additional languages, including French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, japanese, korean, simplified chinese, and localized english in Singapore and India,” the company announced.
Apple also plans to introduce even more advanced AI features in the future, including an “even more capable Siri.”
Cook confidently predicts that Apple Intelligence will “go mainstream” as the user base for iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models expands.“I know from my own personal experience, once you start using these features you can’t imagine not using them anymore,” he concluded.
