The United States International Trade Commission (ITC) has suspended the import of repair parts for the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 smartwatches, in addition to the watches themselves. The sales block was adopted due to a legal dispute between Masimo and the Cupertino giant, accused of having used the applicant’s technology without permission.
The entire case revolves around an alleged theft of intellectual property of the oximeter, a sensor that measures oxygen saturation in the bloodstream. The decision to temporarily stop sales of some versions of the wearable affects not only new consumers, but also old customers who need maintenance on their watches.

According to Apple, the ITC’s measure could result in “irreparable damage” to the company’s business, especially considering the high demand for these products at Christmas time. The manufacturer removed the models affected by the court decision from its website last Thursday (21), so it is no longer possible to find the Series 9 and Ultra 9 in the Apple Store.
The blockade, however, is restricted to the United States and fortunately does not affect Brazil, which, despite being positive, does not bring any relief to Tim Cook. This Tuesday (26), the North American company appealed the ban through an emergency motion for an immediate provisional suspension, which, if granted, revokes the Commission’s opinion.
Apple’s expectation was that the White House would veto the ITC’s decision, something that did not happen — rumors pointed to the possibility of Joe Biden going against the American giant, but the confirmation was a surprise.
Apple argues that “Preventing Apple Watches from being imported and sold serves the public poorly”, as it “deprives consumers of a product with potentially life-saving features”.
“We strongly disagree with the USITC’s decision and the resulting deletion order,” a spokesperson said in a statement, “and we are taking every step to return the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 to U.S. customers as soon as possible. as quickly as possible.”
