Apple releases RCs of iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4;  other systems gain new betas

Apple’s next updates are now a week away, as today the company released its Release Candidates (RCs) for developers. Some systems, however, will undergo another round of testing, which means a slightly longer waiting period.

Thus, we have the RCs of iOS 17.4 (21E217) It’s from iPadOS 17.4 (idem), as well as the fifth betas of the macOS Sonoma 14.4 (23E5211a) It’s from tvOS 17.4 (21L5225a). O visionOS 1.1in turn, received its fourth beta (compilation 21O5203a).

As widely reported, iOS 17.4 will bring support for third-party app stores (the so-called sideloading) and alternative payment systems on iPhone for users in European Union countries, as well as other changes to iOS, the App Store and Safari so that Apple complies with the Digital Markets Act (Digital Markets Act, or DMA). There, too, the update will end support for so-called Progressive Web Apps (PWAs).

The next update for iPhones and iPads will also include other new features, such as new emojis, improvements to Siri and the Stolen Device Protection feature, as well as transcripts in the Podcasts and Live Activities app (Live Activities) for stopwatches. The update will bring new features to the iPhone 15 battery screen.

In Vision Pro, the update will add support for mobile device management (MDM), in addition to improving the quality of Persona and will add Key Verification in iMessage.

Furthermore, watchOS 10.4 and iOS 17.4 will feature a new option for Apple Watches Series 9 and Ultra 2 that temporarily ignores the Double Tap gesture (Double Tap) when using your smartwatch with Apple Vision Pro.

Ultimately, the SharePlay feature is expected to expand to HomePods and Apple TVs.


Very soon, too, all these new compilations should be released to members of the Apple Beta Software Program.
