After several reports of Overheating iPhones 15 Pro/15 Pro MaxApple today officially commented on the problem, acknowledged its existence and promised a software update to resolve it.

HAS CNETthe company said that there are specific apps causing the problem — mainly, the Instagramo Uber and the game Asphalt 9. In addition to an iOS update itself, these apps should also be updated soon to fix the bug that causes overheating and, consequently, greater battery consumption on the devices.

Here is the company’s full statement:

We’ve identified a few conditions that can cause your iPhone to heat up more than expected. Your device may feel warmer during the first few days following you set up or reset your device due to increased background activity. We also found a bug in iOS 17 that is affecting some users and will be fixed in a software update. Another issue involves some recent third-party app updates that are putting a strain on the system. We are working with these app developers on fixes that are in the process of being implemented.

Apple also took the opportunity to ensure that there is no hardware flaw or design issue in the iPhones 15 Pro causing this problem, specifically nothing related to its titanium chassis, the A17 Pro chip or recharging via USB-C.

It remains to be seen whether the fix will come with iOS 17.1, which entered the beta phase this week (and therefore may still take a while to be ready), or whether it will rush to release 17.0.3 soon — which I Personally, I think it’s more likely.
