There has been widespread information regarding the redesign of Apple’s upcoming MacBook Air, but new information suggests that it may come in two sizes.
DSCC Supply Chain has issued her report In-depth quarterly. It includes some information regarding what to expect from Apple in the coming years.
Although the report is available to members of the display industry only. But DSCC analyst Ross Young did share some of the Apple info.
According to the report, the company is working on a 15-inch version of the laptop to provide it alongside the 13-inch model, which itself may get a slightly larger screen as well. But still between 13 and 14 inches.
DSCC also says the company is planning a slightly larger screen for the entry-level iPad. The current entry-level iPad features a 10.2-inch screen. But reducing the frame size can make the screen size up to 10.9 inches like the iPad Air.
Apple is developing a new laptop coming in 2023
TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo gave his opinion on the report saying Mass production is expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Kuo also says the laptop is designed to use the same 30W adapter as the MacBook Air. This makes it significantly lower than the latest MacBook Pro in terms of power consumption.
Kuo also points out that this new laptop might not be called the MacBook Air, which is more a matter of branding than anything else.
Bloomberg reported early last year that the company had considered making a 15-inch MacBook Air along with a redesigned 13-inch, but decided not to produce it.
Apple hasn’t offered entry-level laptops with larger screen sizes for a long time. It was the last non-professional Apple laptop with a screen size of over 13 inches iBook G4 and PowerBook G4, discontinued in 2006 with the move to Intel processors.
And the MacBook Air with a larger screen can be a popular choice among users who want more screen space. But they don’t need the performance of the 16-inch MacBook Pro.
And if the company wants to change the look of the MacBook Air, now is the time. This is according to the transition from Intel processors to Apple Silicon processors. This allows the company to significantly redesign and improve products such as the iMac and MacBook Pro.
