A Apple briefly paused development of new features for iOS 18 looking to fix a series of bugs found in the iPhone during the testing phase. This change is also being implemented in the upcoming iPad, Apple Watch, and macOS 15 software.
According to Mark Gurman, Apple is keeping an eye on public feedback and it has not been very positive since the launch of the iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Series 9 line. Therefore, the company is currently struggling to deliver all bug fixes in December with iOS 17.2.
Employees at Apple’s software division were informed of the change in focus last week, with some engineers being moved to focus on the task of fixing flaws and increasing the performance of iOS 18 at the beginning of testing.
Apple’s software chief, Craig Federighi, has made a greater effort in recent years to ensure that software bugs are resolved before public release, sometimes resulting in new features being delayed.
In the current development stage of iOS 18, the software management team found many bugs and problems in internal testing and this forced Apple to take this break considered “strategic”.
Apple last month finalized the first “M1” versions of iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15. The company also briefly paused work on iOS 17.4, which is expected to be released in March next year.
Still, this “general pause” should not result in delays in the launch of software in 2024. The intention is to prevent problems with the iPhone 15 from recurring in the iPhone 16 family.
