A Apple announced today the start of registration for another edition of the Device Security Research Program (Security Research Device Program)whose purpose is to reward developers/hackers who find and report failures and/or bugs in the company’s products and services.
According to Apple, since its inception, SRDP has played a key role in identifying 130 high-impact vulnerabilities in iOS, which led the company to implement cutting-edge security measures.
The attraction of the program is the opportunity that researchers have to receive rewards. To date, Apple has awarded over 100 reports, with the rewards reaching impressive US$500 mil and an average prize pool of around US$18,000.
According to the Cupertino giant, the research devices provided (read, the iPhones 14 Pro) will be equipped with specialized hardware and software designed exclusively for security research.
With the devices in hand, selected researchers can configure or disable iOS security protections, allowing them to explore areas not accessible by default on iPhones.
There are security researchers with a proven track record, both on the iPhone and other platforms. In addition, Maçã is extending the opportunity to university professors who wish to “introduce Computer Science students to security research”.
However, it is worth mentioning that the number of participants is limited. Registration is open and will be accepted until October 31st. Candidates, according to the company, selected will be notified in early 2024.
