Apple once again refers to “homeOS”, now in tvOS 17.4 codes

Rumors involving an operating system called “homeOS” They are old, but (apparently) they are more alive than ever. If the term had previously been found (twice) in job vacancies published by Applenow it has been seen in codes from tvOS.

The reference was discovered by MacRumors in version 17.4 of the system, the first beta version of which was made available to developers last week, and indicates that Apple continues to work on the system internally — even though we haven’t had any more news about it since 2021.

It could be that the creation of “homeOS” is a way that Apple found to further improve and expand its presence in the smart home sector, unifying the software for Apple TVs and HomePods (which already use tvOS) around a more comprehensive name.

It is worth mentioning that, according to rumors, Apple would have ambitious plans for this market — especially for the HomePods, which have seen few changes since the original model was launched in 2018.

The company would be developing a smart speaker model with an LCD screen on top as well as, according to rumors, a device that would have an iPad-like design with a FaceTime camera for calls.

It may be that, with these investments, the company no longer wants to keep the HomePods operating system so tied and limited to software originally developed for a specific device, such as tvOS. Let’s follow…
