All major electronics manufacturers, including Apple, NVIDIA and AMD, have significantly reduced the volume of orders for the production of chips from TSMC. This was reported by the Taiwanese portal DigiTimes.
According to the publication, the loading of the production line of products with a 7 nm process technology will be regarding 50%, conveyors with more advanced standards will also not work at full capacity. A similar situation will be with older technical processes, including 28 nm, which were previously used at 100% for several years.
A similar situation arose due to an oversupply of manufactured products on the market – in 2022, the demand for equipment dropped sharply. DigiTimes notes that TSMC is ready to both accept compensation from customers and hold onto chip wafers for them until a time when demand picks up once more. In addition, the Taiwanese company is considering the option of revising long-term agreements with partners.
