The Cupertino company is beefing up its music streaming offer with the launch of “Apple Music Classical», a new application dedicated to classical music. Available from March 28, the service is included in the Apple Music subscription (10.99 euros per month in France). It will not be possible to access only the classical music platform.
At no additional cost, subscribers will have access to the largest catalog of classical music in the world. From Jean Sébastien Bach to cellist Sheku Kanneh Mason, in total, it’s more than 5 million albums and thousands of exclusive pieces. Listeners will also benefit from playlists, biographies of composers and even digital works of art.

With this offer, Apple wants to offer better referencing to classical music pieces on streaming platforms. If variety or rock songs are easily identifiable by the title or the name of the group, for classical music, it’s a different story. A title can be interpreted by several different artists. The works are classified according to the composer, a date, a place, a key, a catalog number, etc. Apple’s app promises to “find any recording quickly and easily, thanks to a fully optimized search”according to the firm’s statement released Thursday.
The application is already available for pre-order on theApp store and will soon be on Android.
