Apple Music: More than 100 million songs available

Do you remember the keynote of the first iPod? Back then, Steve Jobs proudly announced that you might fit 1,000 songs in your pocket. 21 years following the invention of the iPod and iTunes, Apple now offers 100,000 times more songs on its Apple Music platform.

“More music than one can listen to in a lifetime or more. More music than any other platform. Simply the largest collection of music in any format ever,” Apple wrote in one press release.

For Apple, the 100,000 million songs are more than just an ever-increasing number. While in the 1960s “only” 5,000 new albums were released each year, every artist in the world now has the opportunity to write their own songs and publish them around the world without any problems. Today, more than 20,000 people release new songs on Apple Music every day.
