Apple has a new Apple Music feature announcedwith which millions of top songs can be turned into a kind of karaoke at the push of a button, reports Techcrunch. If you’re thinking: wait a minute, the lyrics have been displayed alongside the music for a long time, you don’t know Apple Sing yet. Here, users can tap a slider to turn down the vocals and then sing along to the beat of the music. The texts that are displayed are underlaid with functions that show the singers exactly how to sing the passage.
The feature uses machine learning algorithms to process the music in real time and isolate the vocals from the rest of the song. Users can use a controller to control the volume of the vocals separately, even if they are not on their own track.
Apple is capitalizing on its noise-cancelling experience, the company said. However, this also requires a lot of computing power, so that at least an iPhone 11, an Apple TV or a modern iPad are required.
Instead of just animating the lyrics line by line, the improved lyrics feature now animates each syllable to keep the lyrics in sync with the beat. That helps with singing along.
The backing vocals are also separated from the lead vocals so the piece of music can still be chorused. If you want, you can also sing with a group and fill the individual voices.
In the case of duets, the text is aligned accordingly so that both people know which part they are taking on.
The function should be available at launch for the 80 percent of the most played songs in Apple Music, Apple said.
The function should be available to all users in December 2022, and a beta test is currently underway.
