Apple Music increases royalties paid to Spatial Audio tracks

2024-01-22 23:36:41

As anticipated by Bloomberga Apple announced that it will pay 10% more than royalties for artists who make their music available in the format Spatial Audio no Apple Music. As information was released today by 9to5Mac.

This increase aims to encourage artists to use this format and increase the catalog of tracks with such technology, which provides a more immersive sound experience — especially with AirPods Pro, AirPods Max and other compatible headphones.

The bonus, however, does not depend on whether people are listening (or not) to the tracks in Spatial Audio — the important thing is that they are available that way. As long as the songs use Dolby Atmos technology, the artist will receive the extra payment.

Apple is doing this after a significant increase in Spatial Audio adoption among its users. In the last two years, according to the company, more than 90% of its subscribers have tried at least one song with the technology.

Furthermore, the total number of reproductions in this format has more than tripled in the last two years. Since its introduction, the number of songs available in Spatial Audio on Apple Music has increased by almost 5,000%, with a doubling in the last year.

Apple Music has a catalog of more than 100 million songs and 30 thousand playlists — many of them supporting Spatial Audio (Dolby Atmos) and in very high definition, with audio Lossless. For those who love classical music, there’s a dedicated app with over 5 million tracks, all in a simplified interface! In Brazil, there are three types of subscription: University (R$11.90/month), Individual (R$21.90/month) is Familiar (R$34.90/month). If you are not a subscriber, You can test the service for free for one month. It is also part of the company’s subscription package, Apple One.
