Since 2021, the Apple Music offers the Spatial Audiowhich provides an immersive playback experience thanks to technology Dolby Atmos. The feature, however, is not available for all songs on the streaming service, as it depends on mixing and production by the artist and the record company.
In order to increase the list of songs that support Spatial Audio, Apple may start paying more, next year, for artists who offer songs that are mixed with Dolby technology. According to the Bloombergthis would result in a higher payment for royalties of reproduction for those who first adopted the resource in their songs.
Users/fans would not even have to listen to the songs for this incentive to be paid to the artists; it is enough that the content is offered in that format. The idea, naturally, is to encourage artists and recordists to use Dolby Atmos when recording and mixing songs, including older ones, in order to expand the availability of songs with Spatial Audio.
According to people with knowledge of this topic interviewed by Bloomberg, mixing music using technology is very accessible, and there shouldn’t be many obstacles in the process. With the incentives, then, the trend is that the number of songs supporting Spatial Audio on Apple Music will only increase. In addition, broader compatibility with the feature might also translate into greater sales of AirPods and HomePods compatible with the feature.
This reward has not yet been officially announced by Apple, but, if confirmed, it should be presented to artists soon. In the coming months, it is possible that its impacts will already be observed by users of the streaming service, especially with a greater number of songs/albums supporting Spatial Audio.
Apple Music has a catalog of more than 100 million songs and 30 thousand playlists — many of them supporting Spatial Audio (Dolby Atmos) and in very high definition, with audio Lossless. For those who love classical music, there is a dedicated app with over 5 million tracks, all in a simplified interface! In Brazil, there are three types of subscription: University (R$11.90/month), Individual (R$21.90/month) is Familiar (R$34.90/month). If you are not a subscriber, You can test the service for free for one month. It is also part of the company’s subscription package, Apple One.
