Apple M2 Max outperforms M1 Ultra in ProRes video export test

A Apple released last week the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with the M2 Pro and M2 Max processors, and some enthusiasts have already started testing Apple’s new chips in some scenarios, such as video renderings.

According to the analysis published by the YouTube channel Brian Tong, the new M2 Max chip did better in video rendering not ProRes qthan the M1 Ultra, which was seven seconds behind its little brother in the side-by-side component comparison.

No software Final Cut Pro 10.6.3, o chip The M2 Max on a MacBook Pro exported a 15-minute video in a whopping 40 seconds, while the M1 Ultra on a Studio Mac took 47 seconds to render the same audiovisual output.

However, the M1 Ultra in Mac Studio remained faster for exports with Adobe Premiere and scored higher in a GPU Metal performance test. For greater accuracy, Brian ran each of these tests three times.

It is worth remembering that Apple stated in its video of the new MacBook Pro’s presentation that the M2 Max’s media engine has “twice the ProRes support to significantly speed up media playback and transcoding” compared to the M1 Max.

the processor M2 Max of the MacBook Pro has a 12-core CPU (8 performance and 4 efficiency), a 30-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine and 400 GB/s of memory bandwidth deliver excellent performance.

Unfortunately, the new MacBooks Pro sold in Brazil are the most expensive in the world, once more, according to a survey released by the Nukeni website. Around here, the entry-level 14-inch model costs from R$ 24,000 in the official Apple store.
