So far, however, the function is restricted to models from some brands such as BMW, Kia and Genesis.
Yesterday, Apple added to the App Store without much fanfare an app called Car Keys Tests, which cannot even be found by the search, being accessed only through the direct link. It is intended for licensed testers of the Made for iPhone (MFi) program and requires login to get past the first screen.
The app’s description is as follows:
For use by MFi licensees only. Use the Car Keys Tests app to test and validate the connection, performance, and other certification process requirements for the vehicles you develop that incorporate Apple’s digital car key technology. For more information on car key certification, visit the MFi Portal at mfi.apple.com.
It is likely that this app has been around for some time and has been pushed into the App Store for easy distribution to testers. This might mean that the tests are being expanded, although it is not possible to confirm the hypothesis. It would be really interesting to see the feature roll out to more vehicles, especially popular ones.
Since 2020, few vehicles have gained digital key support, especially in Brazil. Among the many doubts, it is almost certain that we will need to wait a reasonable time for us to see the feature implemented in a broad way here – that is, if that day comes.
