Apple joins UK women’s tech inclusion program

A UK Electronics Skills Foundation (UK Electronics Skills Foundationor UKESF) announced another edition of the program “Girls into Electronics”which now has the apple partnership.

It is a project aimed at 400 girls, aged between 15 and 18 years, in which classes, demonstrations and lectures are given on electronics and hardware engineering, announced to commemorate the Day of Women and Girls in Science.

According to the foundation, despite the UK having an 8% share of the semiconductor sector, there were only around 3,200 students enrolled in undergraduate courses in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. To make matters worse, of this total, only 335 were women, showing the need to increase female inclusion in the field.

Many students are exposed to electronics in Physics and Computer Science classes at school, but the breadth, complexity and importance of the field is not generally fully understood. This initiative will ensure that more young people can experience this fascinating and creative subject and learn regarding the valuable opportunities available in Electrical Engineering.

In addition to the classes, there will be online sessions, such as the one in the video below, as well as classes with current students in the area, as well as visits to university departments. A practical demonstration with Arduino is also included in the list of program activities.

O “Girls into Electronics” it will also take place in collaboration with fifteen British universities, such as Imperial College London, Bristol, Leeds and Southhampton. The program will take place in June and July of this year and registration is open. The foundation underscored its commitment to diversity when selecting candidates.

I hope we see more similar programs, no?
