Apple is preparing a new, cheaper Magic Keyboard

Even though it is very comfortable to use with a characteristic design, the Magic Keyboard is let down by its price! But apparently, Apple is working on a new, cheaper model.

a new cheaper Magic Keyboard

In his latest newsletter Power OnMark Gurman reveals that Cupertino suppliers are reportedly developing a new keyboard for the iPad, which is expected to launch next yearThe accessory would be intended for the iPad or iPad Air.

Unlike the Magic Keyboard of the iPad Pro M4 – which already benefited from a nice overhaul last spring – this will be a low cost model, cheaper to produce and with a less insanely high selling price.

Also, there will be no no aluminum frame with this very successful finish. On the other hand, it should probably use the same silicone material of the previous generation of iPad keyboard. It should also benefit from a function bar

This new Magic Keyboard will likely succeed the Magic Keyboard Folio (introduced in 2022 with the iPad 10) and the old Magic Keyboard for the iPad Air (introduced in 2020 with the iPad Pro). According to the Bloomberg journalist, it could be marketed by mid-2025 -which could also correspond to the launch of new models.

A harmonization of the accessory range?

With its new iPad Pro M4, Apple offers a new version of its very elegant Magic Keyboard, still available in two colors: white and black. This new generation benefits from several material and aesthetic changes. A worthy heir to previous generations, the Magic Keyboard is aesthetically very successful: increasingly refined lines, an aluminum coating on the keyboard, an ultra-soft coating on the exterior.

Equipped with haptic feedback, the trackpad is much larger (it goes from 5 cm x 10 cm to 7.7 cm x 11.2 cm on the 13-inch version), which will grant greater comfort to the user without a mouse. It took Apple many years to finally add a function key bar to this Magic Keyboardwhile other competing brands – like Logitech – had already offered it for a long time. For everyday use, this addition was more than necessary, and its absence all the more inexplicable.

On the other hand, you will have to pay 400 euros to have one, almost the price of a iPad 10): the Magic Keyboard is really very expensive – almost unreasonable – and it is unfortunate that at this price, it is only compatible with iPad Pro M4. Especially since the iPad Pro M2 remains an excellent tablet for the moment!
