Apple is no longer allowed to sell iPhones without chargers in Brazil – ICT news

A Brazilian court has fined Apple for selling devices without chargers. The argument of waste reduction was not accepted.

Apple will have to pay 12.275 million Brazilian reals, or almost 2.40 million euros. In addition, the company will no longer be able to sell iPhones without chargers in the country. The court considers that it is an incomplete product which knowingly disadvantages the consumer.

Since the iPhone 12, Apple has stopped shipping original chargers with its devices. Since then, several peers in the industry have followed suit. The argument lies in the fact that most people already have various chargers at home and that the removal of the original supplied charger is, according to Apple, positive for the climate, because fewer chargers have to be produced and devices are more compact and lightweight to carry. The Brazilian judge turned a deaf ear to this argument and said it is unproven.

This condemnation falls the day before Apple will present its new generation of iPhone. The iPhone 14 will indeed be launched on September 7 at 7 p.m. (from home).
