Apple is considering manufacturing personal robots
Apple is seeking to diversify its products through the home robotics sector, as it is currently studying projects for autonomous robots for individuals, according to an article published by Bloomberg on Wednesday, following the company abandoned consideration of manufacturing a car.
Engineers at the iPhone manufacturer are working on a mobile robot capable of following users in their homes, according to what the news agency reported from unnamed sources.
The agency added that the engineers are also looking to create “an advanced device installed on the desk that can move a screen,” but this project “has been added and removed from the company’s road map over the years.”
Apple gained its position in homes and institutions first thanks to the computers it produces, then thanks to the “iPod” and “iPhone” devices, which largely dominate the smart phone market in the United States.
Its tablets, smart watches, and headphones have also achieved widespread success, especially among consumers who already own one of its products.
But the giant company has not released any new flagship device since the Apple Watch. As for the mixed reality helmet (virtual and augmented), “Apple Vision Pro,” which it introduced this year, it comes following its competitors and is currently targeting a professional audience.
Electric car manufacturing
At the beginning of this year, Apple abandoned its ambitions to manufacture an electric car, thus putting an end to a project that witnessed many fluctuations and transformations over the course of ten years.
About two thousand employees at the company worked on this secret project, according to Bloomberg, and a large portion of them were entrusted with designing and deploying tools for generative artificial intelligence, which largely dominated the technology sector in the United States last year.
Several companies, including Samsung, which is Apple’s main competitor in the smartphone market, have begun manufacturing personal robots.
In 2020, the giant South Korean company revealed, during the Las Vegas Technology Fair, a robot in the shape of a small balloon that can track its owner and encourage him to exercise or give commands to other smart devices from home.
During the current year, its compatriot, LG, unveiled a small robot on wheels, capable of interacting with all family members, including adults, children, and pets.
In 2021, Amazon launched the home robot “Astro,” which is responsible, in particular, for carrying out patrols at home in the absence of its owners. (AFP)
