Apple has started testing iOS 16.6 internally

Apple has reportedly started testing iOS 16.6 internally. It must be said that this is the home stretch, since in less than two months, Apple’s WWDC will be held, during which it will present its next systems: iOS 17, iPadOS 17, tvOS 17, watchOS 10 and macOS 14.

a last iOS 16 before the wwdc

Indeed, our American colleagues have simply looked at the their website analytics logs and found that Apple has indeed started testing iOS 16.6 internally. These have in the past been a reliable indicator of upcoming software updates.

Given the schedule, iOS 16.6 will probably be one of the last updates of the current system before the arrival of iOS 17. If the previous versions were rich in novelties, the two betas of iOS 16.5 were rather poor, with only two notable changes: the addition of a Sports tab in the Apple News application and the possibility of starting a recording screen via Siri.

just performance and stability improvements?

According to the latest rumours, iOS 17 should have fewer new features, with the teams having been focused on releasing the ARVR headset and developing xrOS. Indeed, according to our US colleagues, the evolution of iOS should focus on improving performance and stability.

The goal was indeed to limit the very many bugs of iOS 16 (and also of iOS 15), which have been chained relentlessly since the initial deployment of the system. But the firm would not have said its last word and iOS 17 – from its small code name Dawn– should still reserve some new features, among the most requested by users.
