The consultancy Counterpoint released today the results of its traditional survey of the smartphone market. The research revealed figures for the third quarter of 2023, a period in which global smartphone revenue was US$100 billion. The number is more or less the same as that observed at the same time in 2022, but 15% higher than the result of the second quarter of this year.
The manufacturer that took the largest share of this revenue in the third quarter of 2023 was Applecom 43% of total revenue. This was the company’s best result for a third quarter in history, even though the iPhones 15 were sold for a week less in this period than previous models in other years.
According to the consultancy, something that contributed to this result was the fact that the iPhone 15 Pro Max — the most expensive model — was being sold the most. However, competition from Chinese brands was highlighted, such as Huaweia Xiaomi it’s at OPPOwhich have been resurfacing and adjusting to the dynamics following the pandemic.
In terms of number of units sold, Apple came in second place, with a market share close up 15% — once morest approximately 20% and Samsung, which occupied the first position. The South Korean, however, only managed 17% of global smartphone revenue in the period, with drops in 8% in the number of devices sold and 4% in revenue compared to the same time last year.
The only manufacturer that recorded, in the period analyzed, growth in the number of units sold both in relation to the same time in 2022 and the previous quarter was Xiaomi. While the company and OPPO have strengthened their positions in markets such as China it’s at IndiaVivo, on the other hand, has been facing challenges among the Chinese companies.
Already Chinaaccording to Counterpoint, Apple’s revenue from smartphones fell 2,5% during the quarter; There was, however, a broader market decline in the country of 3%. Indeed, considering the competition from Huawei devices, this was considered a good sign for the Cupertino giant, especially considering the difficulties in supplying the iPhones 15 Pro/15 Pro Max.
Finally, the consultancy stated that the full impact of the iPhone 15 line is yet to be seen during the holiday season, with the expectation that it will be driven by users of iPhones 11 and 12. Even with sales not so encouraging so far, the results might improve with the festivities in countries like India and China.
