Apple successfully filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office yesterday local time（USPTO) for a patent covering a foldable iDevice and its cover with self-healing properties.
Apple notes that future electronic devices may have a hinge that allows the device to flex around a bending axis. The display will include a cover layer with flexible areas to prevent damage to the phone due to buckling around the bending axis, and a layer of elastomer on top of the phone’s display cover layer to increase the elasticity of the display cover layer.
A layer of self-healing material is also added to the display cover layer, or it can perform self-healing without prompting, and it can also activate or accelerate the self-healing function under external stimuli such as heat, light, and current. The display cover layer may also include a transparent conductor to form a heating layer to generate heat to act as a stimulus to initiate self-healing.
