Apple wants to launch the Mac Pro in the spring, reports Marc Gurman from Bloomberg. In addition, the Mac mini is to be upgraded with a new processor.
Earlier this week, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple has scrapped its plans to release a high-end variant of the Apple Silicon Mac Pro with the M2 Extreme chip. Now, Gurman has reported that the first Apple Silicon Mac Pro will launch later this spring, as the company has already tested it with an internal version of macOS Ventura 13.3.
Gurman reports that Apple is still working on the Mac Pro to run macOS Ventura 13.3 on it. The macOS 13.2 beta is currently being tested.
Both the new Apple Silicon Mac Pro and macOS Ventura 13.3 are expected to be officially released in the spring. Previously, Gurman said that both macOS 13.2 and iOS 16.3 will be released to the public between February and March 2023.
According to Bloomberg, the Mac Pro will feature the M2 Ultra chip, the same chip that will be used in a new version of Mac Studio. However, the new Mac Pro will retain the design of the old Mac Pro. Supposedly it should be possible with the MacPro to upgrade SSD and GPU. That would be a first for the Apple silicon platform.
Unfortunately, the memory of the new Mac Pro will not be upgradeable.
In addition to the Mac Pro, updated versions of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro and a new 15-inch MacBook Air will also appear.
