Without much ado, Apple’s special event“Scary fast” (“It’s going to chill”) today served, in addition to introducing new Macs, to also officially end the life of one of Maçã’s least well-positioned laptops — but one of the best-selling: the 13-inch MacBook Pro.
For years, this model has been a star with its advanced specs and portable form factor. However, as Apple released newer laptops, it started to look less attractive, especially with the evolution of the MacBook Air after the arrival of Apple Silicon. At this point, Apple’s decision to discontinue the 13″ MacBook Pro isn’t a surprise.
One of the biggest controversial points of the model is certainly the Touch Bar, which divided users’ opinions — some people loved the innovation, while others found it not very useful. Apple then removed the functionality when introducing the 14″ and 16″ MacBooks Pro with M1 Pro/Max chips, but kept it in the 13″ MacBook Pro.
In 2022, the model was updated with the M2 chip, which gave it a brief lifespan. The fact is that, with the launch of the new 14″ MacBook Pro, Apple now allows it to be configured with the more basic M3 chip, eliminating the need for the smaller model.
Those who still opt for a model with an equivalent size can choose the 13″ MacBook Air with M1 chip (which is still available) or the model with a 13.6″ screen and M2 chip.
In any case, the 13″ MacBook Pro will still be available at authorized dealers and retail stores until supplies run out.
