A Apple responded to criticism about compliance with the Digital Markets Law (Digital Markets Actor DMA) from European Union during a hearing, stating that it fully complied with the requirements of the legislation.
In the session, Apple’s lawyer, Kyle Andeerstated that the company adapted its systems to meet the requirements of the DMA — highlighting its commitment to complying with it while maintaining “the values and quality of the user experience”.
We were guided, first of all, by the certainty that we complied with the law. And secondly, that we did so in a way that is consistent with our values and consistent with the language that we develop with our users […].
Also during the hearing, Apple also highlighted its cooperation with the EU in creating standards, even in the face of criticism and requests for investigations from competitors, such as Spotify.
This does not mean that we are not aware of the impact [da DMA] for developers, but first and foremost, we’ll be monitoring very carefully what the impact of all these changes is on the experience that we’ve been delivering to our customers for 15, 16 years through the iPhone.
As we know, Apple reinstated Epic Games as a developer in Europe after the EU questioned the company’s initial license revocation due to contract violations, featuring prominently in discussions about DMA compliance.
According to information from ReutersDMA compliance hearings will take place separately for Apple’s rivals — such as Meta, Amazon, Alphabet (Google), ByteDance (TikTok) and Microsoft — until next week.
