Apple changes ad format in the “Today” tab of the App Store

Not last year, to Apple implemented news related to ads, some of them referring to the way they appear in the App Store. Now, the company is announcing yet another change in this field for its store: a new format for the ads that appear in the “Today” tab.

With the novelty, ads will be displayed at the beginning of the tab, not requiring users to scroll the page to view them. On the other hand, they will appear in a very simplified format, which will have the icon and the name of the app plus a caption designated by the user on the App Store Connect platform.

In order not to confuse users, each ad will have an “Ad” label, making it clear that it is an ad. Apple has also updated its ad guidelines with some new rules, such as not using expressions like “Game of the Day” or “App of the Day” in an advertised app’s icon, name, or caption.

These sections also cannot allude to prices, offers or other incentives that may induce the user to download the app in question, much less contain images or words considered violent, offensive, sexually explicit or inappropriate (such as weapons).

When tapping on an ad, the user will be taken to a personalized page of the application in question, as is currently the case. According to Apple, existing ads will be automatically migrated to the new format in July and will maintain the same landing page previously defined by advertisers.

According to Apple, the new format will only appear on iPhones and iPads running iOS/iPadOS 16.4 or later.
