Apple would have dropped the hammer and officially changed plans for the “Apple Car”, according to Bloomberg. Previously ambitious to produce an autonomous car, it appears that the company now has plans to launch an electric vehicle that helps the driver, but does not drive itself.

Although this information had already been released, despite these changes, the Apple Car launch schedule would have been postponed. Originally scheduled for 2026, the company is now targeting 2028 as the earliest possible date.

The “Titan Project”, as the development of the Apple car is known, was revealed in 2014 and has undergone several transformations. There have been multiple leadership changes and internal disagreements over its direction, just to name a few of the obstacles.

NEW: Apple scaled back its electric car plans at a watershed moment for the project, moving from a Level 4 to Level 2+ autonomous driving system and postponing the planned launch from 2026 to 2028.

Kevin Lynchknown for his work on the Apple Watch, took charge of the project alongside Tim Cook, CEO of Apple. Under his leadership, Apple would have begun discussions with potential partners in Europe to facilitate this new phase of development.

The giant’s decision to recalibrate its goals for the “Apple Car” comes at a critical moment. As pointed out by Bloombergif it is unable to deliver an electric vehicle with the proposed set of features, there might be serious reconsiderations regarding the future of the project.

Despite the challenges and changes in strategy, the company is expected to launch a vehicle with the brand, moving away from previous speculation that it might focus solely on developing an autonomous driving system.
