If you are following Apple Since last year, you may recall that the iPhone 15 Pro was widely expected to have a set of touch-sensitive solid-state buttons, and now it looks like Apple won’t be replacing physical iPhone buttons for at least another year, per shareholder letter spotted by MacRumors. Apple supplier Cirrus Logic said, “A new product we mentioned in previous shareholder letters is no longer expected as it was scheduled to launch this fall as planned,” according to engadget.
Cirrus is known for making a few of the components that go into the iPhone’s Taptic Engine. Apple is the company’s largest customer, accounting for 79 percent of its revenue in 2022. In November, Cirrus told investors and analysts that it was working on a new high-performance mixed-signal component ( HPMS) (which is the same class of part as the Tapic Engine), and that it will hit smartphones sometime in 2023. This week, Cirrus said it has a “limited vision” of the product’s future.
Reports that the iPhone 15 Pro will have a set of solid-state buttons originated from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said last fall that the company plans to replace the volume and power buttons on its next flagship phone with touch-sensitive buttons. Last month, Kuo revised his predictions. , noting that Apple decided to change its plans due to “technical issues that were not resolved before mass production,” and if nothing else, the development is a reminder to treat smartphone leaks with scepticism, especially those that circulate months and sometimes years before an announcement. the product.
