Apple bets (everything) on the development of its xrOS

Apple has pushed ahead with developing the operating system for its upcoming AR/VR headset, diverting resources from work on iOS 17 and macOS 14, according to a Bloomberg report. This might mean that these operating systems will have fewer new features than originally planned.

The operating system for the headset should be called xrOS. The report goes on to say that new augmented reality features for the Apple Store app are regarding to be released. When visiting an Apple Store, users should first be able to point to products with their smartphone and receive more information regarding them. This type of AR-enhanced shopping experience might also be interesting for the headset, although we can hardly imagine that users will put on glasses when entering an Apple Store. Rather, a completely virtual visit to an Apple Store might be realized with it.

Apple usually announces its new operating systems at WWDC in June each year. The company then releases beta versions throughout the summer and releases the final versions in the fall along with new iPhones and iPads. According to the report, this should not be the case with xrOS. As Bloomberg reports, the operating system is to be presented in the spring so that developers have enough time to develop apps so that there is enough software available when the glasses are released.

Would you welcome a virtual shopping experience or will you continue to go to the store anyway? Feel free to write something regarding it in the comment fields below the article.
