A Apple announced today a major update to the Final Cut Pro, your video editing app for professionals. Expected to be released for all compatible devices at the end of this month, the version 10.7 of the software will arrive with new features such as improvements in navigation and organization of the timeline on macOS, as well as support for voiceover recording and color gradation presets on the iPad.
Starting with the new features in the macOS version, the application will gain automatic scrolling for the timeline — which will allow editors to maintain focus throughout playback. Of course, it will also be possible to dynamically adjust the timeline view during playback using the zoom tool or keyboard shortcuts.
Editors will also be able to see the organization of a timeline at a glance and easily differentiate clips by assigned role and with color preview for video and audio. It will also be possible to easily clean up complex sections in the timeline and adjust editing by combining connected clips overlapping into a single storyline it’s at storylines existing connected networks.
Finally, Macs with Apple Silicon will be able to accelerate H.264 and HEVC exports by automatically sending video segments to media engines for simultaneous processing. Creating effects with object tracking has also been improved, thanks to the newest model of machine learning do software.
And on the iPad?
In the iPadOS version, the biggest new feature will be the possibility of recording narrations directly from the timeline using the device’s internal or external microphones. It will be possible to either start a recording while the timeline is being played or define an exact point to start it and define a countdown to mark the beginning.
Also counting on the combination of clips into a single storyline, the new version of the app for Apple tablets will also come with the ability to activate or deactivate stabilization in professional camera mode. While turning the feature on will make videos smoother, turning it off can be useful in cases where you want to focus more on action and movement.
Some of the new features, such as voiceover and clip grouping, will gain exclusive keyboard shortcuts in the iPad app, which will also allow users to finish their videos with a series of new color grading presets and a selection of new titles — which, according to Apple, will make it possible to select the perfect look for a video.
