A Apple it’s at Nokia signed a new long-term agreement that will give Apple the right to benefit from inventions encompassing 5G and other technologies patented by the Finnish company, which will receive recurring payments from the Cupertino company for the duration of the agreement.
The announcement was made by nokia, which highlighted that the new agreement will replace the previous contract between the two companies, valid until the end of this year. The companies signed the previous agreement in 2017, after a long legal imbroglio involving patents.
Jenni Lukander, president of Nokia Technologies, said the deal “reflects the strength of Nokia’s patent portfolio”, highlighting decades of investment in research and development and the company’s contribution to mobile phone standards and other technologies.
The terms of the agreement are still confidential, as well as its exact duration. Nokia has announced that it intends to recognize revenue generated by the new agreement from the first quarter of 2024.
