New information from South China Morning Post realize that Apple has added three indian companies yours supplier listwhich can be interpreted as a sign of the company’s investment in the Southeast Asian country to reduce its dependence on China.
In total, since the last balance sheet on Apple’s partners was released, Apple cut 19 suppliers from its list, adding another 18. Of these, 3 are Indian, while another 5 are Chinese.
Although the majority of Apple’s suppliers are still from China, the country came out of this true “game of chairs” with a negative balance, since the company cut a total of 8 Chinese suppliers. The number of Indian companies, however, grew, going from 11 to 14 in recent months.
The three companies in question are Molex, Onsemi and Shenzhen Erwin, which have facilities in the regions of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh respectively. It is still unclear exactly what services these three provide for Apple.
Despite all these exchanges, it is likely to be a few years before India reaches the same level as China when it comes to collaborating with Apple. According to the information, 151 of the company’s 188 suppliers still have factories in China.
India, it is worth noting, is already responsible for producing 7% of all iPhones in the world and recently approved a new tax break designed with the intention of bringing production of iPads there. Furthermore, recently, India’s vice minister of information technology stated that Apple should triple its investments in the country.
