The driver’s Apple Watch (model unspecified) detected what happened and sent a text message with his approximate location. His owner, however, could not be found at the scene of the accident, which ended up triggering an hours-long search that mobilized almost 20 volunteers and a helicopter.
The driver was only found hours later, around eight kilometers from the accident scene. According to police, he walked out of the vehicle alone and began looking for help, with only minor injuries.
The second case occurred last Friday (12/29) in Maury County, in the state of Tennessee. According to information from the WSMVHowever, the victim’s iPhone (model also not specified) was thrown out of the vehicle. Even so, the device managed to alert authorities about what had happened.
According to the county fire department, the vehicle was found lying in the middle of a creek. Fortunately, the driver was able to get out of the car without any major difficulties.
According to the rescue team, Accident Detection played an essential role in the rescue. According to them, if the victim had been trapped in the wreckage or even passed out, contact established via iPhone would be even more essential.
