With the withdrawal of the Thurgau Confederate and crown favorite Domenic Schneider, the local Appenzeller moved into the focus of events.
Koch secures victory
The almost 90 active wrestlers who competed were led by the two Confederates Martin Roth and Martin Hersche. Nevertheless, it was not a Confederate who brought victory to dry land, but Reto Koch, a member of the Gontner division and mountain wreath. At the beginning of the competition, Koch reported some initial difficulties once morest the Mörschwiler Kranzschwinger Fabian Rüegg. Without any major actions worth mentioning, the start ended without a winning throw by a wrestler. As a result, however, Koch was no longer deterred and lined up victory following victory. Among other things, the Herisau Confederate Martin Roth was left behind in fourth gear. In the final, Koch then met the second Confederate and club mate Martin Hersche.
Hersche, for his part, also advanced to the final with four wins and a point sharing. In this fight, following regarding two and a half minutes, it was Gontner once more who swung to the top. With a short he also managed to win once morest the second Confederate. While Koch was happy regarding his first regional festival victory, Hersche ultimately still had the equally pleasing third place, which he had to share with the brother of the festival winner, Thomas Koch, among others. Patrick Schmid, another Innerrhoder, took pride of place. He managed a match without defeat. With four wins and two set gaits, he secured this excellent placement.
Ten awards remain in the country
Appenzeller secured ten of the total of 25 awards, while Innerrhoden were able to place four wrestlers in the first three places and another wrestler, Sepp Fuster, came in fifth. Dominik Kammermann from Schwingklub Gais secured fourth place. The non-wreathman achieved this feat, among other things, by beating the Vorderland part of the wreath association Naim Fejzaj. The hosts from Herisauer secured three awards in sixth and seventh place. Florian Giger, Hansruedi Diem as well as team leader and Confederate Martin Roth succeeded in this endeavor. A slightly better classification might have been expected from Roth, but a competitive training session was probably more important than a corresponding classification. Naim Fejzaj also just managed to make it into the award ranks.
The best guest wrestlers were Andy Signer, Fabian Rüegg and Marco Oettli in third place. The visiting club Reichenbach from the Bernese Oberland also kidnapped two awards, which Damian Dubach and Hansueli Schütz might call their own.
Young wrestlers: Mazenauer and Sutter
The young wrestlers started their competition early in the morning, with appealing wrestling sports also being offered here. In four categories with the vintages 2008 to 2015, the Appenzeller secured half of the category wins and another participation in the final round.
Among the youngest, Janick Knechtle from Eggerstand secured the final entry following being the only wrestler to remain undefeated. Unfortunately, he was denied the competitive luck in the final round, although in the end he still managed to finish fourth.
In the category with the vintages 2012/2013, Gontner Johann Mazenauer was once once more the measure of all things. With six victories, he confidently secured the category victory. In the second-oldest category (2010/2011), the Appenzellers were not able to advance to the final round, but nevertheless secured an excellent third place with Kevin Sutter and Philipp Höhener and five victories each.
The Teufner Flavio Sutter gave the Appenzell natives another victory in the oldest category (2008/2009). After sharing points at the start, he then ranked all opponents as the losers and didn’t let anything burn in the final round either.
