The two fatal accidents occurred in the Appenzell Alps on Monday.

Two fatal accidents occurred in the Appenzell Alps on Monday. Shortly following noon, a 66-year-old German national was walking with her husband on a hiking trail from Äscher to Chobel. In the so-called Dürrschrennen sector, she fell down a steep slope and fell from an 80 meter high rock face. The emergency services, immediately alerted, might only note the death of the woman.

While rescuers were still on site, a 58-year-old man from the canton of Bern fell while walking the same section of the trail and also lost his life. This accident happened regarding an hour following the first fatal fall. The cantonal police of Appenzell Innerrhoden are investigating the causes of these two accidents.

According to the information currently available, the two victims had no connection and did not know each other.
