Adding to this growing list of clichés is the shocking introduction of a zombie baby. Yes, you read that right.
That said, the film remarkably sidesteps one of my personal least favorite zombie clichés, albeit with an edge-of-your-seat tease. In the thrilling conclusion, as Manel aids a group of children and nuns in escaping a besieged hospital by helicopter, the suspense swells, leading me to believe he would heroically sacrifice himself to ensure their escape from the towering hordes of zombies and opportunistic criminals. To my relief, it never transpires, and our characters instead soar off towards an unknowable fate.
