APEX Committee: Decision to approach Judiciary for judicial inquiry on Bannu incident

In the meeting of the Apex Committee held in Peshawar on Thursday on the demands of the Bannu Peace Committee, it has been decided to approach the judiciary for a judicial inquiry into the Bannu incident.

The apex committee meeting was attended by five members of the Bannu Aman Committee along with other officials including Corps Commander Peshawar, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, IG Police and Chief Secretary.

According to the statement issued by the Department of Interior and Tribal Affairs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regarding the meeting, seven decisions have been approved.

One of these seven decisions is to request the Judiciary for a judicial inquiry into the incident and also to determine the persons responsible for the inquiry at the government level.

Apart from this, the statement also said that the apex committee has decided that for the immediate resolution of ‘misunderstandings arising’ between the public and the institutions, ‘committees will be appointed at the level of each commissioner, in which public , civil, military and police representatives will join.

Regarding the operation in the province, it has been said in the statement that ‘the military agencies have made it clear that there is no such thing, therefore no operation is taking place in the province, while the action against the terrorist elements locally is being carried out by the police and CT. D will do.’

It has been decided in the meeting that ‘action on suspicious areas and schools is the responsibility of the counter-terrorism department and it will take action.’

“Police have been directed to immediately ensure regular and round-the-clock patrolling,” the statement said.

It has also been decided in the Apex Committee meeting that ‘terrorists are condemnable in every form and action will be taken against them without discrimination.’

In this regard, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had said after a meeting with Bannu Aman Jirga on Sunday night that the meeting of the Apex Committee on this matter would be held on Thursday.

In this meeting, the Banu Peace Committee members had put the following demands before the administration:

  1. Elimination of good and bad Taliban and their centers
  2. Restoration of network service in Bannu which was closed for three days
  3. Resolve not to start stabilization operation in Bannu
  4. The missing persons should be produced before the court
  5. The incident of July 15 and July 19 should be investigated immediately
  6. And compensation should be paid to the injured police personnel and public in the war of terror and treated in military hospitals.
