Apartment fire in Linz: 7 residents taken to hospital

Thick smoke was already coming from several ground floor windows when the Linz fire department, which responded to the fire together with the Ebelsberg volunteer fire department, arrived. Because the door to the apartment where the fire was burning was open, the stairwell was already full of smoke. Shortly following the helpers arrived, the flames were already shooting through a cracked window towards the upper floor, reports the Linz fire department.

The residents of the affected apartment were able to get to safety in time – but other residents were trapped in their apartments due to the smoke. The fire was fought with a respiratory protection team, while a second team searched the staircase and prepared it for ventilation. A third respiratory protection team helped to check the apartments of the house. Meanwhile, comrades in front of the house tried to prevent the fire from spreading to the facade and upper apartments using an external attack.

As soon as they arrived, the helpers were met with thick clouds of smoke.

All apartments were searched – all residents as well as a dog and two cats were able to be taken out of the apartments by the firefighters. A Linz AG bus was also brought to the site to look following the people. 7 residents had to be taken to hospital.
