Aoun Award for Community Service: Empowering Students in UAE Educational Institutions

Abu Dhabi, September 26 / WAM / The Emirates Red Crescent Authority launched the “Aoun” Award for Community Service in its twelfth session, at the level of educational institutions in the country for the academic year 2023-2024.

This was done through a press conference held today at the Authority’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of His Excellency Hamoud Abdullah Al-Junaibi, Acting Secretary-General of the Red Crescent, the Deputy Secretary-Generals, and Dr. Amina Hassan Al-Maamari, Officer of Voluntary Programs and Community Service at the Emirates Foundation for School Education, along with a number of officials from sides.

The subject of the award addresses a number of humanitarian and community fields that serve important segments such as needy families, orphans, people of determination, senior citizens, and the adoption of any other initiatives that serve society, as educational institutions from kindergartens to universities compete in achieving these goals by adopting initiatives that contribute to strengthening them.

In his speech during the press conference, His Excellency Rashid Mubarak Al Mansouri, Deputy Secretary-General for Local Affairs at the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, stressed the interest of the authority’s senior leadership in strengthening the social responsibility aspect of all educational institutions. Therefore, the “Aoun” Award finds support and support from officials in the authority, as it is one of the initiatives. The quality that contributes to instilling the concepts of volunteer, humanitarian and charitable work among students, urging them to extend a helping hand and assistance to those in need, and qualifying the student community to contribute effectively to humanitarian and charitable programs and activities. Pointing out that the Aoun Award for Community Service is considered one of the Red Crescent’s qualitative initiatives in the field of enhancing the Social responsibility in all educational institutions, instilling the concepts of volunteer, humanitarian and community work among students, urging them to extend a helping hand and assistance to those in need, and qualifying the student community to contribute effectively to humanitarian and volunteer programs and activities.

He added, “The Emirates Red Crescent Authority aims, by organizing the Aoun Award for Community Service annually, to encourage the spirit of creativity, innovation and competition among students and motivate them to adopt initiatives that serve their community and country and work to enhance national identity. The award also contributes to deepening the concept of self-mobility and attracting students to participate in various activities.” And achieving the goals and principles of sustainability in humanitarian work.

He added, “With a simple statistical comparison between the level of participation in the award 10 years ago and now, we find that the schools that participated in the award in the year 2013 were 80 schools, while their number at the last session last year reached 277 schools, and the number of schools that formed the Student Crescent teams in that period was 277 schools.” The year was 160, while there are currently 365 schools, and the number of members of the Student Crescent in schools nationwide was 780 students, while last year their number reached 7,746 male and female students.

He said, “This clearly demonstrates the vertical and horizontal expansion in the level of the award’s programs and fields on the one hand, and the participation of educational institutions and students in its activities on the other hand.”

The Deputy Secretary-General expressed his hope that the award in its current session will be more distinguished and rich in the desired participations and results, offering thanks and appreciation to the Red Crescent’s partners in organizing the Aoun Award, led by the Emirates Foundation for School Education, the Department of Education and Knowledge, Higher Education, and Partnership Schools. Universities, and the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination.

For her part, Dr. Amina Al-Maamari spoke regarding the standards of the Aoun Award for Community Service, the mechanism of work of the arbitration committees at the local and federal levels, and the levels and categories of the award, in addition to the role of the award in achieving the goals of sustainability and climate action, enhancing national identity, and encouraging students to adopt innovative ideas and initiatives that enhance the areas of the award. Humanity and society.

In addition, during the press conference, the logo of the Aoun Award for Community Service was launched in its new look.

It is noteworthy that 30 thousand dirhams were allocated to the winner of first place for the award at the university level, 25 thousand dirhams for second place, and 20 thousand for third place. At the school level, 25 thousand dirhams were allocated for first place, 20 thousand for second place, and 15 thousand dirhams for third place. For kindergartens, 15,000 dirhams were allocated to first place, 10,000 to second place, and 8,000 to third place, in addition to 15,000 dirhams allocated to first place at the level of rehabilitation centers for people of determination, 10,000 to second place, and 8,000 dirhams to third place.
