Anyelin Venegas was one step away from winning a bronze medal for Venezuela in the weightlifting tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which took place from July 26 to August 11.

She finished fourth in the women’s 59kg (kg) competition and was awarded a diploma from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), something that did not satisfy her, because she wanted to bring joy to the country that finished the meeting in France without any wins. This had not happened to the national team since Sydney 2000.

The powerful woman promised to train as hard as possible to be able to get on the podium in Los Angeles 2028.

“I’m not going to give up, I’ll keep moving forward because that was a battle that couldn’t be won, but there are still many more to go. I promise to get a medal for Los Angeles,” Venegas told Aloys Marín, a member of the press department of the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV).

Weightlifter’s mark

In the weightlifting competition, held at the Paris Sur Arena, Venegas lifted a total of 230 kg, broken down into 102 kg in the snatch and 128 in the clean and jerk, which were not enough to win the coveted bronze medal.

At 25 years of age, the Trujillo native believes she has a lot of room for improvement in the next four years, which is why she feels confident about facing the cycle that will conclude in Los Angeles 2028.

He made it clear that he was disappointed at not being able to make the honor roll of the 59-kilogram competition, but said that he will take the event in Paris as a learning experience to correct his mistakes and excel in future international events.

“I was very excited. In my last movement of the clean and jerk I didn’t know how much weight I should lift because my coaches told me to go out and get that bronze medal. I wanted to achieve it, but it didn’t happen. A fourth place is very good, but now I will focus on improving for the future,” she concluded.
