“Anxiogenic discourse of politicians”, “A little tough to put pressure”: Yves Coppieters evokes the epidemic rebound of the Covid

By analyzing the curve of the indicators of the Covid epidemic in Belgium, we clearly notice a rebound. Despite this, experts and politicians are not worried.

However, a new vaccination campaign is being set up at the start of the school year. Yves Coppieters, who confided in our colleagues from 7sur7, finds that the politicians put the population under pressure. “It’s a bit rough to already put the population under pressure when we know that the summer will be under control”.

Before continuing: “I will be more critical of the politicians who are working to prepare the ground for the fall. They have just installed the device for the fourth dose of vaccine. Some use the word “vague” on the sets of television and repeat that we must be very careful. The political discourse is once more quite anxiety-provoking and intended to prepare a whole series of measures for next September.

Are vaccines still effective?

What’s more, the experts do not yet have enough perspective to know if the vaccines will be effective enough to fight once morest the variants that are currently rampant. “The announced vaccine is not sufficiently adapted to circulating and future strains. If we had a “super vaccine”, the timing would not be a problem for me. But this is not the case…”, confides the epidemiologist.

Finally, Yves Coppieters wants to be somewhat reassuring with regard to the situation that we should know in the fall: “I think that we will see a recovery, but we have all the necessary weapons not to block life I hope that our politicians will not anticipate too strong measures and reinstate the vaccination pass. From a public health point of view, that would not be of interest. From a political point of view, it seems more plausible, because the CST is used as an incentive for vaccination. I am sure that wearing a mask will come back repeatedly, but not everywhere, not all the time,” he concludes.
