Anvar Samost: The government does not seem to have run out of money

The new prime minister, Kristen Michal, together with the semi-new government, is in office and the new coalition agreement is ready. Apparently, several more important changes that were initially written in unnoticed will come out between the lines – in addition to the deferred income tax, the increase of which will apply to everyone from the first earned cent – and thus Michal’s repeated recommendation to keep expectations low was true. But this is only part of the picture that opens up when reading the contract.

This is the agreement of low, one might say small and unimportant goals.

Since the expectations were low, it could be said that the society got what the party with the largest mandate in history promised in the last weeks. Unfortunately, this is where the questions start.

A colleague from Postimehe, very experienced and who has seen many elections and governments and coalition agreements, Aivar Reinap undoubtedly wrote correctly: “Reformist Kristen Michal, who participated in Postimehe’s “Election Studio” in February of last year, emphasized that a stable tax environment is important for the economy and criticized the left-wing tuning of the economy with a tax increase ax. He expressed hope that voters will give the Reform Party a mandate to lower taxes. /…/ A few months later, the government led by the Reform Party, which won the elections with the support of nice promises, announced an increase in VAT and income tax and raised the car tax. The result is the persistence of inflation at the top of Europe and the continued decline of the economy. /…/ Now that Kristen Michal personally took the reins of government, the whole horror is happening again.”
