Antonis Turkogiorgis, one of the leading figures in the Greek rock scene, died at the age of 73.
The singer, bassist and founding member of ‘Socrates Drunk the Conium’ had been dealing with serious health issues since 2010. He was a dynamic performer, singer, songwriter, lyricist and all around uncompromising artist.
Makis Iulis, the last drummer of Socrates, said in his statement regarding the loss of his friend: “Finally today, Easter Sunday 2024, the time has come for the big goodbye that I was so afraid of all these years that at some point I will find myself in such difficult position to tell you… At last your little soul will rest from the Calvary you suffered since April 2010… Goodbye my dear friend, goodbye my dear partner, goodbye my only Tony”..
Antonis Turkogiorgis – “Rokia Wants Magic”
Through a post, his former partner, Kostas Bigalis, said goodbye to Antonis Turkogiorgis, when he was informed of his death. “Today, the great musician, guitarist, composer and singer, Antonis Turkogiorgis, left to meet his brotherly friend, Yiannis Spatha, the other half of the legendary Socrates Drunk the Conium, the leading rock band of all time. Tony Power. Forever”.
The difficult times for Antonis Turkogiorgis began in April 2010, when he suffered a stroke and was transferred to a hospital in Athens. Since then he has never made a substantial comeback. He had then undergone a special operation of intravascular embolization of a brain aneurysm and upon completion of the then operation the doctors expressed to his wife their optimism that he would live, but not in the way he was used to.
The talented musician has been a dynamic performer, singer, bass player, composer and lyricist. He devoted himself to rock music and left his personal mark. The sudden adventure of his health took him away from the stage and he was put through a great trial to be able to stand on his feet once more. Since 2010 he was stuck.
The concert for Antonis Turkogiorgis
On October 10, 2018, his friends showed that they have not forgotten him and organized a big concert to raise money for his support to follow rehabilitation in a special treatment center.

After the dissolution of Socrates, Antonis Turkogiorgis pursued a solo career making many successful collaborations. In 2007 he released his autobiographical book, entitled “The Band” in which he records with humor and vitality, how a band is created based on his personal experience, while at the same time unfolding his musical path from his first steps in music to the end . The pivotal point of the book is of course the adventurous and subversive musical journey of the great Socrates.
