A great celebration of poetry, Part 27 “Living Voices from the Mediterranean to the Mediterranean” was held in the town of Set, near Marseilles. The World Poetry Festival 2024 has gone on from July 19 to 26, presence 86 poets from 25 countries from all over the world.

Antonis Skiathasguest poet, this year, from Greece, recited his poems in various parts of the city. His poems in French were rendered by the actors Patrick Vendrin, Arthur Compelles, Charlotte Dumoulin and Olivia Nicosia. The presentation of his work was supervised by the Hellenist Michel Bernier, the Chilean poet Patricio Sanchez-Rojias, the French poet Laurent Grison and the French poets Claire Lajus and Viviane Ciampi. Musically, violinist Melanie Arnal and musician Patrick Fernandez accompanied his recitals in both Greek and French.

Thousands of poetry lovers attended the actions of the Festival, every day, from morning to midnight, in specially designed spaces throughout the city.

In the square of the town hall there was a poetry book exhibition with stands of publishers of poetry collections from all over France. A special activity, the daily recitation of poems by their creators on the Canal Royal, in boats crossing the canal.

The Poetry Festival of Set is co-organized together with the body led by the art historian Maithe Vales-Bled, the Municipality of the city where the poet Paul Valery was born in 1871, the Region of Occitania and the Ministry of Culture of France with the participation of all bodies of Set.

Antonis Skiathas also represented the Patras International Poetry Festival with the head of the Festival for France and Arabic-speaking countries, Tunisian poet with Greek roots, Marianne Catzaras. The aim of the meetings was the development in Patras of a landmark culture that will concern the art of Homer. The International Poetry Festival of Patras scheduled for 2024 will take place from September 19 to 22 in emblematic places of Patras. Arriving, Antonis Skiathas told “P”: “The honorable invitation from the director Maithe Vales-Bled to one of the most important festivals in the world, that of Set, allowed me to present my work in France. For 8 days that the Festival lasted, I read 11 times in various parts of Set, while Hellenists and translators presented my work with the corresponding musical accompaniment each time. With the Festival officials we discussed the possibility of cooperation between the two festivals of Set and Patras. A great honor was the hanging banner with my poems from the collection “The Only Faithful Tenant” in the city hall next to that of the great French poet Paul Valery.
