PARIS, April 24 (Benin News) –

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will visit Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Monday before traveling to Moscow and Kyiv to meet the leaders of Russia and Ukraine, respectively.

“The Secretary-General will travel to Ankara, Turkey, where he will be received by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on April 25,” Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, said in a statement on Saturday.

Turkey plays the role of mediator between the parties to the conflict in Ukraine, even hosting – as was the case on March 10 – a meeting between the foreign ministers of Ukraine and Russia, respectively Dimitro Kuleba and Sergei Lavrov .

Ankara’s role as interlocutor was applauded by the UN Secretary-General himself, who in a phone call on March 14 thanked Erdogan for his role in seeking peace between Russia and Ukraine.

After the meeting with the Turkish President, Mr. Guterres will travel to the Russian capital, Moscow, where he will meet the next day with President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The meeting with Mr. Zelenski will take place next Thursday, and the Secretary General is also expected to meet Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dimitro Kuleba.

According to UN Deputy Spokesperson Eri Kaneko, the main purpose of the Secretary-General’s trip is to find a way to end hostilities and “silencing the guns” in Eastern Europe.

“He wants to discuss with the leadership what steps can be taken now to silence the guns, help people and allow those who want to leave to have safe passage,” Kaneko told a conference. hurry.
