Antonio GuterresSecretary General of the United Nations, arrived today in Havana to participate in the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the G-77 and China.

Marta Elena Feitó Cabrera, Minister of Labor and Social Security, welcomed Guterres at the José Martí international airport.

In a press conference held this Wednesday at the organization’s headquarters, the Secretary General of the United Nations stated that the event will serve as a preview before the Sustainable Development Goals Summit to learn regarding the needs and goals of the largest group within the UN. .

He noted that The G-77 and China helped build a consensus and raised their voice to make changes in the international financial architecture, particularly in financing policies, and in many other aspects, reports Prensa Latina.

More than a hundred delegations will participate in the Summit to be held in this capital on September 15 and 16.

Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, reported yesterday at a press conference that more than 90 member states have already signed up for the list of speakers, which constitutes a demonstration of the interest aroused by the event, focused on the current challenges of the development: Role of science, technology and innovation.

The G-77 and China is the largest intergovernmental coordination mechanism of developing countries, with the mandate to articulate their positions in the negotiations of the economic, environmental, administrative and budgetary spheres, as well as some of a social nature within the framework of the United Nations system.
