Anton Dahlberg and Lovisa Karlsson take home the Olympic bronze in 470!

It was a nail biter to the end. But after a lot of hard work, the super duo consisting of Anton Dahlberg and Lovisa Karlsson took home an Olympic bronze in the 470.

– It is important that we start well. A meter advantage at the start will be very important. If there is something you should keep an eye on, it is how we handle ourselves at the start. There is a lot at stake, said Anton Dahlberg ahead of Wednesday’s medal race.

But the competition was postponed after Marseille once again had a total lack of wind.

During Thursday morning it was time again and then the wind blew and everything was where it should be. The duo got off high up at the starting boat to windward where they quickly found a good track on the first cross but unfortunately the wind was somewhat more stable in the lower part of the course.

But good tactics and hard guarding paid off and Anton Dahlberg and Lovisa Karlsson sailed into a bronze place!

– That means everything. I still can’t believe it but it feels so damn good, says Lovisa Karlsson to Radiosporten after bringing home her first Olympic medal.

Scenes of joy after finishing

Sweden sailed into fourth place in the medal race, but it was required that the Spaniards, who before the final were in second place, would finish 8th or worse. However, everything fell into place and the Spanish duo consisting of Xammar Hernandez and Brugman Cabot came ninth and thus just outside the podium.

Once it was finished, real scenes of joy were seen from the Swedes’ boat with an Anton Dahlberg in total ecstasy and a Lovisa Karlsson with a smile that won’t fade for many days.

– We have had such fantastic support here and there are so many people to thank. A team victory and we are so grateful and proud, says a tearful Anton Dahlberg to Radiosporten.

The overall win was taken home by Austria who celebrated by turning their 470 upside down and embracing each other standing on the underside of the hull.

Second place was taken home by the Japanese duo after an incredibly strong sailing from start to finish.
