A successful first. Frenchman Antoine Praud won, for his first participation in the Paralympic Games, at only 20 years old, bronze in the 1,500 m (T46 category), Saturday August 31. He finished 3rd (3’51″37), a personal best, behind the Russian Aleksandr Iaremchuk (3’50″24) and the Australian Michael Roeger (3’51″19). This is the first French medal in athletics, the 10th in total.

The young Breton, pushed towards athletics by his mother, a former high-level athlete, has experienced a meteoric rise in recent years. He took part in his first world championships last year at the Charléty stadium, where he finished 10th. Elite French champion over the distance, he took advantage of his time on the purple track at the Stade de France to shave off his best time by four seconds and thus confirm his passage under the symbolic four-minute mark.
