PORTRAIT – The great-grandson of Louis Armand and deputy for Haute-Savoie is appointed Minister of Economy, Finance and Industry.

Ten years ago, Emmanuel Macron arrived at Bercy as Minister of the Economy at just 37 years old. Today, it is an even younger Macronist, just 33 years old, who is taking the seat of Minister of the Economy, Finance and Industry, replacing Bruno Le Maire.

Antoine Armand’s appointment is part of a career that was carried out at a fast pace. He entered the National Assembly in 2022 (re-elected in July 2024) as a member of parliament for Haute-Savoie, the land of his paternal family. He therefore belongs to the second generation of Macron’s party, the one that is perhaps a little freer in its thinking than the first. This election was the start of a political career that the new minister wanted to build very early on, based on a brilliant CV: a graduate of the École Normale Supérieure and the École Nationale d’Administration, Antoine Armand began his career at the General Inspectorate of Finance.
